A Foundation
It’s been an eventful year since our last post (which I’ll be sure to do more frequently!). Some of the more notable events include the publishing of our introductory video ‘We Are Cipactlan’, officially obtaining our 501(c)(3) status, and our Tzintiliztli Workshop Series being available online.
‘We Are Cipactlan’ can be found on all of our social media as well as YouTube and delves into the Nahua creation story and how Cipactli, in particular, relates to us as a people and as an organization. Art and animation was all thanks to Balam Tzibtah, who can be found at instagram.com/balamtzibtah so, please, be sure to visit them, like and follow, and tell them Cipactlan sends their regards! Narration and instrumentation was done by myself and our Director of Operations, Desiree Villescaz. This project was incredibly fun to work with and we hope to bring you more in the near future.
Obtaining our 501(c)(3) status felt like a long process, and it really was as it to from about April of 2024 until February 2025. Most of the time was spent simply waiting, a standard part of the process from what we've seen and heard from others but the positive aspects outweigh the negative. If you’re considering starting a nonprofit, the sooner you apply for 501(c)(3) status the better, but be prepared for the innumerable questions and information you have to provide.
Finally, we have completed our first draft of the Tzintiliztli Workshop Series. While the series was always meant to be in person, we recognize that remote courses provide better reach and less exposure for our community members who are most at-risk in the current political climate. We are looking for any suggestions on how to make these courses better, so don’t be afraid to send us a message at info@cipactlan.org to make yourself heard.
